Bollywood Attraction

To me Bollywood (Hindi cinema) shows the real life mixed with lots of drama and little tadka of emotions, than just going ga ga in fantasy world. When I go to Hindi cinema I leave my brains at home and just try to be happy in next 2-3 hours. I love, I just love the family dramas, love scenes, break ups, nonsense comedy etc. I even love the tumka- chumka of Bollywood (shela shela ki jawani…..). Bollywood is so colorful, full of masti, emotions that I can relate to, fashion that I can never relate too, blah blah blah…. Here I don’t mind calling Bollywood as pure source of entertainment. I think not everything is made to pass on message or put some intelligent idea in your heads.

Loving Bollywood doesn’t mean I hate Hollywood rather I can say I am quite done with these fantasy worlds of Hollywood. It was fun for a while but I guess with passage of time Hollywood people have forgotten the real world scenario. Are you listening Hollywood, come back to earth and to normal human beings and in the present era please it’s a humble request.

Spring summer sarees

As a Textile and Fashion designer my “role is to seduce” and when it come down to Indian women, I think sarees makes them look seductive and elegant. With this inspiration I got chance to design few “Chandari” and “Made up” sarees with Abraham and Thakore for spring summer 2011. Designing for spring is always fun as its more about fresh colours, light fabrics, fall and drapes etc.

I loved designing all of them, and yes if you like any of those they are available at Abraham and Thakore outlets in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Go rush :)

Carpet design for Mumbai International Airport

After studying design for 3 years, it was time to execute or rather experience the real world of design.

I did my first ever internship with Abraham and Thakore (http://www.abrahamandthakore.com/), Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Here I realize the fashion world is full of drama, glamour, perfection and storytelling which hides behind the term “Design”.

The project, I got was to design carpet for Mumbai International Airport. The first day when the project was introduced along with the brief, I had a smile on my face (sarcastic smile) because the same project before, was designed by England base company, and no matter how advance they or we are they still think that India is all about paisley and so their designs too (here I apologize for comment).

It was a challenging project as the stretch of carpet was from 2-3 kilometers. After research and studying the Interiors of Air port, I decided to show modern India inspired from traditional art forms. The emphasis was that the carpet should not become the centre of attraction and just flows with the surrounding concepts.

Designing: After researching about what element of India can denotes in modern time, I took “Kolam” (rangoli) as my inspiration, because it’s believed that Rangolies are drawn to welcome guest inside home, and as said “Atithi Devo bhavah” it’s our pleasure to invite guest into India. The colour story comes from natural fuels like Gobbar (cow dung), dried grass etc. With this idea after trying up few design exploration I came up with the following designs. Even though this are not the final design, as they are still confidently, but I am sharing few good exploration. The designs are into tile format whih will be repeated.

My love towards Art and Fashion has always been inspiration for my work. From childhood I have always been attracted towards femininity as a centre for my creations. With this inspiration I decided to study “Design” in one of the finest Design institute of the world NID, National institute of design, Ahmedabad, India. This is the institute where I took first step into Design world and started to define Design with passage of time and experience.

Sankranti in Solapur

The beautiful tradition of drawing ‘rangoli’ (floor art) by the hands to welcome guest and celebrate different festivals in India is incredible. The ‘rangoli’ powder is made out of marble powder and the different colours are pigment base powders. The patterns and the colour combination achieved by the rangoli artist is incredibly pleasant, simple and great. So here is the picture of the rangoli drawn on the road to celebrate “sankranti” festival in my home town Solapur, Maharashtra, India.
